Two years ago, I stepped into Utamaduni Camp in Aarhus, Denmark, and I was utterly transformed
As someone from Tanzania, this festivalcamp rooted in the bond between Denmark and Mwanza, Tanzania, became a powerful bridge of cultures for learning and exchange of cultural knowledge.
I was welcomed with open arms, and I remember sharing my own cultural traditional experience through dance, I and my team, the positive mind, we offered live afro fusion music performance at the festivalcamp as well led two traditional dance workshops one on the traditional Sindimba dance from Mtwara, and another on Sukula from Ukerewe, Tanzania.
Watching participants learn these dances was as inspiring as it was humbling. As a trainer, I gained so much from them, and I realized how much we could grow together through exchange.
That’s why, after that first year, I knew I had to come back in 2025.
Both years, I saw Utamaduni as more than a festival; it was a vision of what’s possible when we build lasting bridges between Denmark and Tanzania, between Mwanza and Dar es Salaam, and between Aarhus and beyond.
And one day, I hope to bring my own children there at Utamaduni for the to experience the wonderful cultural celebration, so they too can feel this incredible human celebration this learning, eating, singing and dancing together, as one.
Greetings fra Isack Abeneko
